Finland has ample water resources and a long history of water conservation and sustainable use of water resources. Finland has been a forerunner in the installation of treatment facilities for municipal and industrial wastewater and still today it is listed as one of the top country for water quality management in Europe.

The leading industries in the South-West Coast of Finland, namely the medical and chemical industries, food industry, shipyards and pulp and paper plants, as well as agriculture, are all dependent on the availability of good quality water resources. Thus, the region has accumulated a wealth of water expertise that can be used for solving water related problems anywhere in the world.

Platform for Water Expertise is an active network of universities, companies and business development agencies from South-West Coast of Finland. Purpose of the network is to bring together actors willing to find new sustainable growth from water.
